The military vehicle of choice today is affectionately known as the Humvee or Hummer. Technically the Humvee is the M998 HMMWV. It has 2x2 seating on either side of the drive train. The flanking seating allows for the drive train to be raised while maintaining the vehicle's center of gravity. Indeed, the Humvee is so surefooted that soldiers insist it cannot roll over. Powered by a V-8 6.2 diesel engine, the Humvee produces 150 bhp at rpm and has an automatic transmission with three forward gears and one reverse gear. In production, the model can be varied by converting body configurations on the basic chassis - changing the Humvee from a mere personnel carrier to a missile vehicle. In any case, it's so popular among soldiers - and apparently among the public - that every so often one makes it into the public sector, cruising down the highway in all its unique glory. Now, the Military Humvee - the M998 HMMWV - is recreated in an authentic die-cast replica by Matchbox Collectibles, "the greatest name in die-cast." |
